ABOUT
Praised for her temperament and the elegance of her phrasing, the Franco-Romanian pianist Mara Dobresco gives recitals throughout Europe as well as in Argentina, Australia, Japan, and the United States.
Her numerous recordings have earned her rave reviews from the specialized press, which often compares her to Argerich and Arrau.
Mara Dobresco is regularly invited to perform in recitals or chamber music with the finest musicians of her generation in prestigious venues such as the Théâtre Mogador, Cité de la Musique, La Scala Paris, Théâtre de Châtelet, Musée d'Orsay, Salle Cortot, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Théâtre de la Monnaie, Bozar in Brussels, and Grand Théâtre de Provence, as well as in major festivals like the Festival de La Roque d'Anthéron, La Folle Journée in Nantes, Festival d'Aix-en-Provence, LillePiano(s) Festival, Chopin Anniversary in Châteauroux and at Salle Pleyel, Festival de Nohant, Chopin Festival at the Orangerie de Bagatelle, and the "Classique au Vert" Festival.
Mara Dobresco has carved out a very personal path in the contemporary musical landscape, offering numerous projects that intersect music with theater, choreography, literature, and photography.
Her recent projects give us the opportunity to admire her beautiful collaborations with artists such as actor Denis Lavant and director Volodia Serre, choreographer Béatrice Massin, filmmakers Claus Drexel and Radu Mihaileanu, and photographer Éric Sanger Monteros.
A passionate interpreter of contemporary repertoire, she regularly collaborates with numerous composers, including Philippe Hersant, Franck Villard, Philippe Leroux, György Kurtág, and Oscar Strasnoy, who has made her the dedicatee of several of his works.
Mara Dobresco is always looking to enrich her repertoire through new musical and human experiences. She has thus chosen to join two ensembles that are close to her heart: the Quatuor Face à Face (2 pianos, 2 percussionists) and more recently, the Ensemble K (a group of solo musicians conducted by Simone Menezes).
A child prodigy who performed with an orchestra at the age of 11, Mara Dobresco is the winner of numerous international competitions. She is also a scholarship holder of the Yamaha, Meyer, Tarazzi, and Nadia and Lili Boulanger Foundations and has received guidance and support from Martha Argerich, Dominique Merlet, as well as Jean-Claude Pennetier and Pierre-Laurent Aimard, with whom she has performed in four-hands concerts.
Her latest album, titled Le Fruit du Silence, was released in September 2022 by the Scala Music label.
