Mara Dobresco was born in Bucharest, where she began her music studies.

In 1996, after graduating from the “George Enesco” Academy of Music in Bucharest, she entered the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique in Paris, where she studied under Gérard Fremy, winning the First Prize in piano playing, the Prize for Chamber Music and the Diplôme de Formation Supérieure summa cum laude in 2001. She then went on to study vocal soloist accompaniment under Anne Grapotte.

In 2000, she was a prize winner at the last International Piano Competition in Sydney and obtained scholarships from the Yamaha and Meyer Foundations; she has won prizes at the International Competition of Epinal, the « Maria Canals » International Competition in Barcelona, the International Competition for piano and orchestra in Cantu and the « S. Rachmaninoff » International Piano Competition. Since then, she has been broadening her horizons with leading musical personalities such as Martha Argerich, Pierre-Laurent Aimard, Jeff Cohen, Hans Leygraf, Patrick Cohen, Dominique Merlet, to mention but a few …

At the same time, she has been building up her experience through recitals and concerts in Europe, Asia, South America and Australia, solo performances with philharmonic orchestras in Romania and France, and recording for Romanian radio and television, as well as for Radio France.

Finally, in 2002 she made her first disc.
